Plan the Perfect Myrtle Beach Golf Vacation
Myrtle Beach Golf is a rite of passage for every golfer. With nearly 100 golf courses, spread across some 70 miles of the coast, there’s enough to do here to keep you busy for a lifetime. At some point, you have to go. Myrtle Beach is home to nearly 100 golf courses across the Grand Strand – giving it the title of the “Golf Capital of the World”. When you’re looking to plan the perfect Myrtle Beach golf vacation, there is a lot to consider. Because of that, we’re got a few tips and tricks for you to plan the perfect Myrtle Beach golf vacation this season!
Plan the Perfect Myrtle Beach Golf Vacation
Location, location, location
Myrtle Beach’s single most important rule is: “Minimize driving times between where you stay and where you play.” There are enough quality courses to make for a fun trip, even if it takes 10 rounds over the course of a week. If you’re staying in one area of the Grand Strand, don’t schedule courses from too far away – Myrtle Beach traffic is notorious and travel time may be as much a part of your experience as the golf itself. Some great courses right around the beach include the Arrowhead Country Club, Legends Golf and Resort, and the top ranked Grande Dunes.
Arrange Private Showings
If you are looking for some more secluded places to play golf, the Myrtle Beach area is a good place to start. There are several private courses in the area that allow guests to schedule a private session. The famous Dunes Beach Club is the perfect example of this! However, if you’re looking for a quieter place, the Surlf Club and Wachesaw Plantation are also great options that are a little out of the way.
Call in the Caddies
Don’t go caddy-less! These ladies are known nationwide for their attractive and fun personalities, as well as their stellar golf knowledge. After getting their start in Myrtle Beach, they’re now active in more than a dozen states with courses across the country. Rates start at $159 per caddie per foursome, plus gratuity.
To package or not to package?
Most people go to Myrtle Beach for the golf. But those who visit more than once should know, it’s not a bad place to work with a third-party provider, especially given the size of the region and sheer breadth of options available. If you’ve never been before, it can be dizzying. In such a case, working with one of the area’s packagers is well worth the minimal extra cost.
Never Go Hungry
The Myrtle Beach food scene has come a long way in the last few years. While there are still plenty of chain restaurants, locals have been able to enjoy more creative fare from famous seafood houses to delicious Mexican, stellar steakhouses, and more. Keep the theme and head to Greg Norman’s Australian Steakhouse in North Myrtle Beach for dinner. Feeling seafood – there are plenty of famous places from Calabash to Georgetown including Pier 14 and the Sea Captain’s House.
Get Competitive
The Myrtle Beach World Amateur is the biggest local golf tournament, but there are plenty of other participatory opportunities. You can get involved in the Myrtle Beach Fall Classic in November or check out the Father & Son Team Classic. And on Thanksgiving weekend, plan your trip to Myrtle Beach for the George Holliday Junior Tournament! There are also always plenty of private and small tournament to enter throughout the year.
Forget Something – Don’t Worry!
If you’re looking for a golf store that’s big enough to get lost in, Myrtle Beach has you covered. Check out the many choices at PGA Tour Superstore, Golfsmith and more. You’ll find everything from new clubs to shirts, hats, golf balls, and more. You’ll also be able to pick up rentals from these stores as well! So if you’re new to the game, or have someone that wants to join last minute – pick up a rental from the local golf stores!
Golf By Day, Party By Night
Myrtle Beach is home to more than just golf courses, where we can all settle any tied bets from on the links. There are also less seedy non-golf activities in abundance for those looking for less tweed and more fun.
